Warming, Nourishing and Detoxing Yogi Tea
From the beloved Yogi Bhajan, I share this wonderful Indian classic. At any Kundalini yoga event this tea is served and gulped by the gallons. It has countless benefits which include aiding digestion, strengthening the immune system, helping to fight a cold, etc. For 1-2 gallons of boiling water add: 1 tsp Cloves 2/3 tsp Whole Peppercorns 1Tbsp Cardamon Pods (be sure to crack pods open using a rolling pin) 6 Cinnamon Sticks 1/2 lb Ginger, sliced thin (about 1 inch ginger root) Boil all ingredients in water then bring to a simmer for at least 30 minutes. I usually make 3 gallons at a time and let it sit overnight to cool down. When rewarming I will add some homemade almond milk and honey. If I need a little pick up I will soak a black tea bag in a cup for 2-3 minutes. When warding off or treating a cold I add extra ginger. If one is experiencing pain, blood sugar issues, or menstrual cramps add more cinnamon. Be careful with the cloves, if the amount is too much it can over power the other herbs.
