Water. Simple and easy to do - drink water. By weight, the cells in our body are 80% water, 15% protein, 3% fat, 1% carbohydrate, and 1% nucleic acid. By drinking plenty of water you are insuring that your body's functions are carried out at optimal level. Depending on where you live and the moisture, or lack thereof, in the air will determine how much you need to drink. I usually advise my patients to drink at least 1/2 of their body weight in ounces per day. After drinking water regularly, you will become more in tune as to when and how much water you need, naturally, without needing to count ounces. Most cases of constipation are from dehydration. I advise patients to drink an 8 ounce glass of room temperature water, wait ten minutes, drink a second glass, wait another 10 minutes and drink a third and final glass. This will completely hydrate your GI tract all the way down to your colon. If you're constipated from dehydration, this should be the fix. For stubborn bouts of constipation juice one lemon and mix with hot water at the start of everyday before any thing else is eaten. This will help the liver and gallbladder produce and release bile, gently flush the lymph system, increase metabolism, and create an alkaline environment your body will love.
